Nettleham Woodland Trust – Please can you help?

Dear supporters

As you will probably know Monks Wood has been seriously afflicted with chalara fraxinea, ash dieback, and so NWT has decided to take out all our ash trees as good woodland management. This was a depressing but necessary decision. Fortunately we have been awarded an emergency grant by the Forestry Commission as have other affected locations, and so we are able to replace them without jeopardising our finances

With over 4,000 trees to remove and replace, we are going to do this in two stages. The North Wood will be tackled before the end of the year and the Middle and South Woods in March. The plans for the autumn are as follows:

Saturday 22nd November and Saturday 29th November with the option of Saturday 6th December

  • flexible sessions from 1000 to 1400. Early birds should meet at the container at 0900 to collect trees, canes and guards
  • meet where the people are in the North Wood
  • bring a spade

We will not be painting and planting canes in advance because the condemned ash and the gaps between rows of other species will provide clear guidance.

We have a lot to do and would welcome any support you can give in this large and unexpected operation

I hope you will be able to join us for a few hours on either date

Best wishes and thank you

Chris Williams
