An exceptional day of fun and fundraising was enjoyed by all yesterday, Saturday 19th July, at Walk in the Park 2014. The 12 hour event organised by local volunteers took place at William Farr to raise awareness and funds for three very worthy causes.
This year saw support for:
- Cancer Research UK
- Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance
- St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice
Many teams registered and gained sponsorship ahead of the event before taking it in turns to walk around the `Walk In The Park’ track. Fundraisers of all ages and abilities took park with an array of entertaining costumes throughout the day with a different theme each hour.
Despite a day of weather for all seasons, from blistering sunshine to torrential downpours, everybody’s spirits remained high. There were plenty of activities, stalls and refreshments throughout the day along with exceptionally talented live music and dance acts. Fundraisers were also treated to a flypast from a Dakota and also a visit from the Air Ambulance. Overall a fantastic event that kept the whole family entertained.
As the day drew to a close there was time to reflect on the reasons that had brought everyone together, poignantly uniting everyone under one cause. The spectacular fireworks display broke the silence yet individual reflection continued as they lit the sky. Well done to everyone involved in the event; the approximate total of money raised from Walk in the Park 2014 is £10,000 – an outstanding total.
